Privacy Policy

Above Ground Coffee is a members-only roastery in Brooklyn, New York. This policy explains what we collect when you use abovegroundcoffee.com and the Above Ground iPhone app, why we collect it, and who else touches it. We keep it short because we keep the data small.
What we collect
- Application details. Name, email, state, and your answers to the membership questions.
- Account and profile. Name, email, shipping address, phone number and t-shirt size if you add them, and your member number.
- Orders. What you ordered, brew preferences, order notes, prices, shipping labels, and tracking numbers.
- Payments. Stripe processes every payment. We never see or store your card number; we keep Stripe's customer and payment identifiers and the amounts.
- Email. Messages you send to our addresses, and a record of the transactional email we send you.
- Notifications. If you turn on roast and shipping alerts, a push token for your browser or phone.
- Referrals and affiliates. Which referral link or creator code you arrived with, so credit goes to the right person.
- Roast-cam. Short videos of your coffee being roasted. They show the drum, not you.
How we use it
To review applications, run your membership, roast and ship your coffee, take payment, send you order confirmations, tracking, and roast alerts, answer your messages, and pay referral and affiliate credit. We do not sell your data, run ads, or use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Who we share it with
- Stripe for payments and membership billing.
- Shippo and USPS for shipping labels and tracking, which need your name and address.
- Google Workspace for the email we send and receive.
- Apple for push notifications to the iPhone app and for the Apple Wallet membership card.
- DigitalOcean, which hosts our site and database.
Each of them only receives what their job needs. We share data with no one else unless the law requires it.
Cookies and app data
We use a login cookie to keep you signed in and a cookie that remembers the email you typed on the login page. The iPhone app is the same website in a native shell and uses the same cookies. We use no analytics or advertising cookies.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your account and order history while you are a member and for our bookkeeping afterwards. You can update your name, email, address, and notification settings from your profile at any time. To close your account or delete your data, write to us through the contact page and we will take care of it, keeping only what tax and payment rules require.
Children
Membership is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
